How to Coordinate Jewellery with Your Outfit
Nothing transforms an outfit better than the right piece of jewellery, so accessorising can help to complement your skin tone and highlight facial features, while pulling a whole outfit together.
A lot of people say no outfit is complete without the perfect set of earrings and at Allen Brown Jewellery we completely agree!
Here we share our top tips on how to accessorise your outfit the right way:
1. Check the Dress Code
Consider the day ahead of you and how you can accessorise in a way that is both appropriate and practical.
For example, heavy bracelets will not work well for a day of typing in the office, but a classic analog watch and pair of stud earrings would complement your uniform well.
However, your statement bracelet or necklace would work well with a simple outfit for an evening dinner or night out with the girls.
2. Creating Balance
You need your jewellery to harmonise with your outfit in order to avoid any style clashes. When styling an outfit filled with bright colours and patterns, find simple classic jewellery that ties it all together rather than adding to it.
An outfit composed of solid colours and minimal detailing would benefit from larger, bolder pieces of jewellery. Colourful or metallic statement jewellery is perfect for transforming an entire outfit and adding a focal point of interest.
3. Highlighting Facial Features
To draw attention to your face rather than your outfit, consider statement earrings. The right pair will draw attention to your face and sparkly styles are perfect for highlighting your eyes.
Also evaluate your face shape to find an earring style which would suit you best. If you have an oval face shape look at studs or triangular earrings to complement your cheekbones. Whereas if you have a heart face shape you MIGHT consider drop earrings.
4. Complimenting Skin Tone
Your outfit is more than just your clothes, it’s about making every aspect of your appearance pull together – including finding colours to compliment your skin tone:
- Cooler skin tones pair well with white gold and gems coloured in red, blue or purple.
- Warmer skin tones harmonise well with yellow metals and gemstones in green, yellow or orange.
- Natural tones are best complemented by silver metals and gold metal pairs well with matte skin and dark coloured hair.
5. Mixing Warm and Cool Tones
Experimenting with coloured jewellery tones is always good for your style.
Amber gems, rubies and canary diamonds are great statement colours which look great when layered over monochrome outfits. It is also great to style opposites, with warm gemstones over cool blue or purple ensembles.
Mixing cool jewellery with warm colours is very centred around the science of a colour wheel. Finding the balance between cool jewellery on top of warm answers is where we justify that ‘opposites attract’ in fashion.
For example, a ruby red gem on top of royal blue material would work well for a statement style.
