Jewellery that stands the test of time – diamonds and pearls
With today’s fast track lifestyles and fashion obsession, it can be difficult to find a piece of clothing that stays in use for more than a couple of months. But jewellery is different, and can remain a favourite item for years and years.
Two of the most timeless materials that are favoured around the world, are the beautifully sophisticated diamonds and pearls. Often handed down in families, these two jewellery staples stand the test of time like no other materials.
What makes a diamond timeless?
A diamond’s beauty speaks for itself. They sparkle like no other stone, can be cut into many different shapes to show off their brilliance, are hard wearing and versatile. Not only that, but their magnificence is often accentuated through using them in simple and clean cut jewellery designs, which means they are not tied to a specific era.
For centuries, diamonds have been known as the stone of eternal love and commitment, but it was De Beers’ 1947 campaign ‘A Diamond is Forever’ that really shot it to stardom. The jeweller made diamonds synonymous with marriage, unbreakable and precious.
While pure diamonds are perhaps the most classical, they are also available in a variety of colours, such as pink, orange, green and purple. When paired with the correct setting, they really can make a piece to cherish for years to come.
What about pearls?
Pearls have a simple and spectacular elegance that makes them truly timeless. Dating back over 4,000 years, they give an air of purity and splendour that is difficult to match. Demonstrating their eternal nature, you could have a pearl necklace from a thousand years ago against one from today, and barely be able to tell the difference.
When diamonds and pearls are combined, they really do produce exquisite pieces of jewellery that can be treasured for an eternity. At Allen Brown, we have been working on some exciting products that you may have seen in Lichfield’s Citylife Magazine.
