How We Remodel Jewellery Into Brand New Pieces

What do you do with a piece of jewellery that holds great sentimental (but no stylistic) value? One that has been handed down through the generations of your family, but now resides at the back of your jewellery box? The answer is, of course, to remodel jewellery such as this into brand new pieces that you can wear again.

If you’ve recently come across an heirloom piece and are interested in having it remodelled, then our team is here to help. Read on for a step-by-step look at our process, or bring your pieces to our workshop for an in-person consultation.

The Possibilities of Jewellery Remodelling

The Allen Brown team has remodelled countless pieces of jewellery over the past 40 years, and in that time we have found that people actually want to wear the pieces they’ve inherited from their loved ones, rather than keep them hidden away.

Our customers regard these heirlooms as little mementos of their family’s history, and each piece holds a story within its setting, just waiting to be rediscovered… without clashing with every outfit, or falling apart the moment you put it on.

Not to be confused with simple repairs, our remodelling service goes above and beyond replacing a missing stone here or fixing a broken setting there to completely transform old pieces into brand new ones. It remains one of our most popular and enduring services to this day, so whether you want to publicly honour the loved ones who are no longer with us or simply keep their memory alive, here is how we can help.

How We Remodel Jewellery

Here at Allen Brown Jewellery, we specialise in giving heritage jewellery a second life, and we work closely with you to determine how to achieve this with your piece.

Our remodelling projects begin with an in-person consultation of your piece to get right to the heart of it; both in terms of its sentimental value, but also its materials, fixtures, and the integrity of the design. Every piece that is brought to our workshop has so much promise hidden within it, and together we will uncover how exactly to bring its hidden significance to the surface; quite simply, the story comes first, and the structure comes later.

Once we’ve assessed the piece and discussed its design possibilities with you, then we can begin the process of remodelling it, but don’t worry if you’re not sure what you want the final design to look like yet – here are all the different ways that we can remodel jewellery into a bespoke new piece.

Repurpose The Stones

It’s a common misconception that, in order to truly remodel jewellery, you must use as much of the original piece as possible; however, this is not the case.

Many of our remodelling projects involve taking small elements from a piece – such as a gemstone or two – and incorporating them into a new design. Depending upon the condition of the piece and the suitability of the materials, this may indeed be the only way to complete the remodel, as the setting may have deteriorated over the years and be in need of replacing.

If this is the case for your piece, then we will aim to restore it to its former glory by repurposing the original elements and making the most of the raw materials that remain in good condition.

Rework The Design

If you’re planning on having your pieces remodelled because they’re not fashionable any more, then you’ve most likely fallen out of love with the design – not the heirloom itself.

Say for example, a brooch that spent decades on your grandmother’s lapel contains some truly spectacular stones, unfortunately housed in a very dated setting. You may not want to wear this piece right now, but by reusing key elements you can craft a new version – one that will be worn and loved just as much as the original was all those years ago.

Bring it to our workshop today and let’s rework it together into a contemporary piece that goes with every outfit.

Change The Style

Just because your heirloom spent the past 80 years as a ring does not mean it must remain one forever – not when we can remodel jewellery into all kinds of new designs to suit your preferences.

When envisioning a new iteration of your existing piece, it’s important to remember that it doesn’t have to be an exact replica of the original, or even take the same form. We can remake the piece into anything that you like: from repurposing a bracelet’s charm as a pendant, or crafting matching rings from a pair of earrings, the possibilities are truly endless.

We can even combine multiple pieces of jewellery into one if you can’t pick a single design, so why not bring your whole heirloom collection along with you to your consultation, and let’s find the best pieces to remodel together.
